Dysembryoplastic Neuroepithelial Tumor (DNET)
A Dysembryoplastic Neuroepithelial Tumor is an unusual tumor. It is benign and slow growing and frequently manifests itself in childhood or young adulthood by producing seizures. These tumors are usually associated with focal cortical dysplasia of the brain. In the example shown below, this young adult patient had been troubled by lifelong seizures.
After the surgical removal of this tumor (arrow) shown on the above left image, the patient's troubling seizures went away, and the medications taken to prevent them were successfully discontinued. The patient continued to work and to lead a normal life.
